If you’re looking for a country home which is simply bursting with character and olde-worlde charm, yet is just a stone’s throw from Maidenhead and also offers fantastic transport links into London or the West Country, then Beam End Cottage could be just what you’re after.

The property offers an idyllic country lifestyle without the need to compromise on access to modern amenities and transport links. Paley Street is a semi-rural location just four miles south of Maidenhead. It’s surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside yet is just a few minutes’ drive from the M4 and Maidenhead station with fast links into London.

Beam End Cottage dates from the 1500’s and has been in the same family for generations. It’s an achingly pretty house with a quirky charm and heaps of character features including open fireplaces, oak beamed ceilings and lots of nooks and crannies. We think you’ll fall in love with its not-quite-straight walls and floors which all add to the appeal of this five-hundred-year-old gem.

Set on a peaceful lane with very little through traffic, Beam End Cottage was originally thought to have been two Elizabethan thatched drover’s cottages. Now joined together Beam End is now a spacious family home with three double bedrooms, three reception rooms, a family bathroom, kitchen and utility/boot room. The house has a lovely south-east facing wrap around garden with absolutely stunning views over fields to the rear.

Enter the property through the five bar gate and onto the gravel driveway. The front door leads into the boot room and then into the warm and cosy kitchen. This room has a tiled floor and a range of modern wall and floor units. The view from this room is particularly lovely as the picture window above the sink looks out onto the gardens and fields beyond. Just off the kitchen, one of two staircases leads upstairs and there is also a downstairs WC.

Step up from the kitchen into the dining room – a lovely space with a huge brick fireplace which still has the original bread oven set into it. From the dining room, the space flows into the original entrance hall of the property, with the second staircase leading upstairs, and a doorway into the snug. There is a large storage cupboard here which also houses the boiler, and a second downstairs WC.

The cosy and extremely charming sitting room is the heart of this lovely home. Leading off the snug, this room has an enormous fireplace with a Morso log burner and double aspect windows looking onto the garden and the lane. It’s the perfect place to snuggle up with friends and family in front of a crackling fire on a winter’s evening.

Upstairs there are three generous double bedrooms. The master suite has enough space for a huge bed, a double-aspect view and a range of built-in wardrobes. A door leads into the large family bathroom with bath and shower over, and is arranged in a ‘jack and jill’ style with access to the second bedroom. Bedroom two also features built-in wardrobes and is full of character with a wooden beamed ceiling and the original chimney running through it. Bedroom three looks out onto the pretty garden, and is currently being used as a home office.

Outside the generous garden faces south-east with lawns which wrap around the rear and side of the home. You’ll enjoy sun from the morning to late afternoon here and the uninterrupted views over the fields beyond are simply stunning. The garden has some lovely mature trees including a willow and a large yew hedge. There’s also a vegetable patch if that’s your thing, and two sheds providing plenty of storage for lawnmowers and all your garden furniture.

We think Beam End Cottage is perfect for the discerning house hunter looking for a peaceful location with easy access to modern life. We can’t wait to show you around.
